ATOL
If your holiday includes an air element (e.g. a flight) then the government's official body the CAA say in most instances it should be covered by an ATOL license.
ATOL is the glue that holds a holiday together, its what makes a flight + a hotel + a transfer, into a holiday. It's also what makes your "holiday" someone else’s responsibility when travel is disrupted in anyway; from ash clouds to flight delays.
If your airline goes under whilst you're on holiday; it makes the ATOL holder responsible for getting you home safely - and if they can’t do that the government (CAA) becomes responsible for you.
